STEP 1: Open your checking and/or savings accounts

The first step in switching banks is opening your accounts. Explore our checking and saving options to find the right fit for you. Opening an account online takes less than 20 minutes to complete.

Step 2: Make a list of your deposits and payments

Managing your money can be so much easier with automated bill pay, direct deposit and recurring transfers or payments. The second step in our process is to create a list of all your deposits and payments. Here are a few examples:

Deposit Examples: Employers, Pensions or Retirement plans, Social Security, & Investment income

Payment Examples: Mortgage/Rent, Auto loans, Insurance, Credit Cards, Utilities, Retirement, & Childcare

Payment Method Examples: Check & Direct Deposit, Bill Pay,  Mobile Banking,  Automatic Payments, & Pay by Check

Linked Accounts: You should also take note of where your current account or debit card is linked. For example, your account might be the default method of payment on Amazon or linked to your digital wallet app.

STEP 3: Enroll in Online and Mobile Banking

Having the freedom to bank from anywhere and at any time is essential, especially now. The 3rd step in switching to State Bank of Cross Plains is taking advantage of our online banking, mobile app, and digital banking solutions.

Step 4: Update Direct Deposit

Now it is time to reference that list you made earlier. Start with direct deposit which is usually from your employer or is government benefits.

Direct Deposit

Fill out the Direct Deposit Enrollment form and give to your employer to transfer your payroll directly into your SBCP personal checking and/or savings account.

Government Benefits

Complete the Government Benefits Enrollment form and return to your local SBCP office in order to transfer government benefits directly into your SBCP personal checking and/or savings account.

STEP 5: Change the way you pay

Once direct deposit is set up, begin moving over all the other automatic payments on your list. Use Bill Pay to control your payments and pay bills directly online at any time. Continue to move over your automatic payments to your new State Bank of Cross Plains checking account using your account number and our routing number.

Take advantage of Zelle ® to easily split the cost of a bill, request money for a group gift or pay back your roommate for your share of the rent. It is a fast, secure, and easy way to send and receive money.

STEP 6: Stop using and close your old account

The final step is to say goodbye to our old financial institution. In order to officially close out your old account, make sure to complete the following -

  • Make sure all automatic deposits are going into your new SBCP personal checking and/or savings account
  • Make sure all checks, withdrawals and recurring check card payments have been taken from your old account
  • After clearing all items from your old account, contact the financial institution to close your account (might have to in person)
  • After closing the account, destroy old debit cards, checks, and other forms related to the account
